I had the funeral for John Kaptis today.  He was Nicole's boyfriend who was tragically killed in a crash last week.  Nicole shared with me that he had reconfirmed his faith since coming with her to Faith.  He loved the outdoors and especially fishing.  When we arrived at the Hylton Cemetary in Earlhurst, Virginia it was raining steady, but as soon as the procession headed up the winding dirt road the rain stopped, it felt like God reached down and turned off a faucet.  It was fitting in that beautiful setting to have a service for someone who loved God's creation.  I was talking about the hope that carrys us through times like this and the moment I began talking about Christ returning with our loved ones a beautiful shaft of sunlight broke through the clouds and lit up the area we were in, it was an awesome moment.  It was like God was telling Nicole and the whole family I am still here. So if you are going through a hard time don't forget He is still here and He still cares.  Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. 1 Peter 5:7 (NLT)       Hope to see you Sunday

This Sunday  At Faith . . . (AM) Billy Price   In the book of Acts we read of a special group of people called the "Bereans", their claim to fame in the Bible was their attitude about the Bible.  We read their story in Acts 17:10-15 10 The brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews. 11 Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so. 12 Therefore many of them believed, along with a number of prominent Greek women and men. 13 But when the Jews of Thessalonica found out that the word of God had been proclaimed by Paul in Berea also, they came there as well, agitating and stirring up the crowds. 14 Then immediately the brethren sent Paul out to go as far as the sea; and Silas and Timothy remained there. 15 Now those who escorted Paul brought him as far as Athens; and receiving a command for Silas and Timothy to come to him as soon as possible, they left.Acts 17:10-15 (NASB95)  What set the Bereans apart? Mermit Mason in his mid fiftes trust Christ as his savior, a few days later he went to be with the Lord. Mrs. Begay a 75 year old trusted Christ and was baptized on Mother's Day. Mr. Peter Tom age 86 trusted Christ from a hospital bed and then went to be with the Lord one day and a half later. How we rejoice with the Farris family at God's wonderful work there in New Mexico.  Doug Williams Dorcas and I just wanted to say hello, and ask for your prayers for us as we travel to Ecuador tomorrow.  We will be there for about 10 days, and will be doing some translation checking on 2 Samuel and other OT portions, and doing some teaching as well. Thanks so much for all of your prayers and support, and please pray that the Lord will use us to be an encouragement and blessing to the Awa believers and to our co-workers in the mission while we are down there. (Doug is pictured above on his current  trip)    Seth Bradley had a great write up in the Roanoke Times, he has really excelled in sports at AHS.  He is  graduating in a few days and heading to Roanoke College in the fall.  We have seen Seth and many of our graduates grow up at Faith.  Plan to attend and honor them the first Sunday in June.    Hope to see you Sunday

The men's prayer breakfast meeting and eating this month. STEWARDSHIP NOTE (This is a note that I attached to our giving records for the quarter, thought I would share it with you too.) Dear Members and Friends of Faith,   I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your faithful giving to the ministries of our church.  As I write this we are in the middle of April and we are having a very good month.  Our attendance is strong and there is a good spirit at the church.   We just had another membership class with the possibility of four new members.  A mission team is gearing up to head to West Virginia to help our missionary John Wyatt.   Chris informed me that we helped three different families with financial needs just today.  John is scheduled to sit with a family Thursday during a surgery.   I just got back from visiting with a family at the hospital.  It is your giving by God's grace that makes this ministry possible.  I don't have the space or do you have the time to hear all that is going on here at Faith.  But I just wanted you to know that your giving is making a difference.   In these difficult financial times, I know it is sometimes very difficult to give above your regular financail obligations, that is why it means so much to me that you continue to give on a reguar basis.  I just wanted to say thanks.  We are getting ready to go through our busy season at the church.  VBS, TeenWeek, Anniversary Sunday are all quickly approaching.  We look to have another record year in our mission support as 21 cents out of every dollar you give goes to missions.   Sometimes when I hear the bleak financial news and see gas prices at $4 a gallon I must admit I wonder will we meet our budget, will we have our financial needs met?  But month after month God works through people just like you and month after month the needs are met.  So Faith continues seeing its dream realized.  Thanks for being a part of that dream.      Hope to see you Sunday
