This week we continue in our series, God-Centered

18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:18

This week I will be looking at final scriptural command that will finish out our sermon series.  We have seen so far the importance of rejoicing in the Lord and being in a constant state of prayer.  The final quality of a "God-Centered" life is the outflow of these two qualities.  As we rejoice in God and stay in constant communion with Him our eyes will become open to all the blessings He has given us and will cause us to give Him heartfelt thanks.

Do we only thank Him when all is well?  Now this scriptural challenge is to thank Him in everything.  Something we can only accomplish by His grace.  Join us this Sunday as we finish the puzzle of a God-Centered life.

Title: The Seriousness of Sin
Scripture: Mark 9:43-48

43 If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched-- 44 where 'Their worm does not die, And the fire is not quenched.' 45 And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame, rather than having two feet, to be cast into hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched-- 46 where 'Their worm does not die, And the fire is not quenched.' 47 And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire-- 48 where 'Their worm does not die, And the fire is not quenched.' Mark 9:43-48 (NKJV)

This Sunday night at 6 PM Jeff will be bringing the evening message from the above passage of scripture.  Hope you can join us as Jeff challenges us to take sin seriously.

Every Thursday morning I meet with fellow pastors: Dan Gillette, Howard Merrell and Doug Williams for breakfast at McDonalds.  I have been doing this for over 30 years and have reaped great benefit from their friendship.  The Bible says there is safety in a multitude of counsel.  I thank God for their friendship, advice and being there when I needed them.  I hope you have some godly friends you can learn from and lean on.
How we thank God for our many volunteers at Faith.  Throughout the week they give of their time and talent to help the Lord's work here at Faith to go forward.  We could not afford to pay to have so much work done here at Faith.  Without our volunteers we could not function as a church.  Thanks to everyone who gives of their time, talent and treasure
Middle School Sunday School class had some unusal things to eat last Sunday.

This week we continue in our series, God-Centered

pray without ceasing, 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (NKJV)

This week we are looking at prayer and how that fits into the God-centered life.  What did Paul mean when he challenged us to pray without ceasing?  I think Paul envisioned living a lifestyle that was centered around God and prayer.  Join us as we seek to vitalize our prayer lives.

Howard Nicely will be speaking this Sunday night in the evening service at  6 PM.   Howard has been in our area for many years as a teacher and coach.  He is a deacon in our church and serves as a teacher in the Man Cave each Sunday.  Hope you will plan to attend as Howard shares God's Word with us.

Sunday was a great day here at Faith as we got to see three of our young people follow the Lord in Believer's baptism.  Megan McHenry, Christian Tucker and his sister, Eva, all followed the Lord in baptism.  Pray for these young people as the continue to grow in their Christian life.
Room 4 will never be the same.  The folding door is gone, the wall is in place ready for paint.  The middle school and grade school classroom is nearing completion.   Thanks to all the guys who worked so hard on this project.   Volunteer labor at the church enables us to give generously to missions (see above).
Bud Shires and his son Doug cooked for the Men's prayer breakfast last Saturday.  It is really neat seeing a father and son serving God together.
They are both very active at Faith and they are good cooks! :)
This is Sue Livick who is our latest teacher at Faith.  She comes to us with many years of experience in teaching and we are excited she will be having a teaching ministry with our children.  Sue teaches the S. Baptism this Sunday at Faith

Visit our church web site  faithbaptistcovington.net

I am beginning a new three week sermon series titled "God-Centered" this Sunday morning.

One of the major characteristics of the early church was joy!  Yet we find little joy among Christians today.  Join us as we begin this series on what a God-Centered life will look like.

Got Joy?

Rejoice always
 1 Thessalonians 5:16 (NKJV)

Jeff will be preaching this Sunday night on "Time To Grow Up".  Many Christians haven't moved beyond childhood,  Paul in Hebrews reminds us it is time to move into spiritual adulthood.

12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. 13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. 14 But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. 1 Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, 2 of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. 3 And this we will do if God permits.               Hebrews 5:12-6:3 (NKJV)
IN MY WORLD . . .

The church recently purchased a new mower.  Here Steve Mercer tries it out.  We still have spots open in August for the grass cutting schedule.  Thanks to  all our volunteers who keep the lawn looking so nice.  (Please note we have a training class this Saturday 9 AM following the Men's Prayer Breakfast for anyone interested in learning how to operate the new mower)
It seems lately at Faith construction is always going on, the latest project is underway.  We are creating  a hallway to the portable classrooms and replacing the folding doors with a permanent wall.  This room will serve the 4,5,6 graders in the first hour and our Middle School Sunday School class in the second.  Both classes have been growing and need the space.  Here Ray Livick is hard at work moving the door to get ready for the hallway.  Thanks to all our volunteers in construction who save the church thousands of dollars every year in labor costs.
Jeff preaching last Sunday on "Victory", we are so glad to have Jeff and his family here at Faith.  Jeff is our associate pastor in charge of Christian Education.
The children's building is ready for action. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard on this project.  Ever week 30-40 boys and girls gather to hear about Jesus.  Pray for our children's ministry here at Faith
