Steve and Kathleen share a special message with the church

This Sunday I will be beginning a new sermon series: Spiritual Heart Disease This series is based in the book of Malachi, the last book in the Old Testament.  As we come to the end of the Old Testament we discover the children of Israel were far away from God and they didn't even recognize it.  In this three week series we will be looking at the symptoms and the cure of Spiritual Heart Disease. This Sunday our subject is: Doubting The Love of God 2 "I have loved you," says the LORD. "Yet you say, 'In what way have You loved us?' Wasnot Esau Jacob's brother?" Says the LORD. This Sunday night Jeff will be bringing a message from Mark Chapter 10 on: OVERCOMING OBSTACLES 46 Now they came to Jericho. As He went out of Jericho with His disciples and a great multitude, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the road begging. 47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!"                             Mark 10:46-47 (NKJV)  It is hard to believe Easter is just around the corner. This year we will be in a special sermon series, "The Easter Experience"during the month of March leading up to Easter Sunday on Sunday March 31, this year both of our services will get to worship together at the Covington High School Auditorium at 10:30 for one unified service.Hope you will plan to join us and bring your friends and neighbors. Mike Wade is our deacon on deck for the month of February (968-0952) Missionary of the Week: Tim and Jessica Robertson (Cambodia) 55 people attended the Victory Bible Class last night We would like to share with our church family some recent news – Kathleen was diagnosed on Thursday with breast cancer. The current pathology reports indicate the cancer is in its early stages, but she has some upcoming appointments that will give us more information and details. Our church family is very important to us and we ask for your prayers as we begin this journey and for wisdom for the doctors. While we are anxious and unsure of what the future holds, we know that we serve a God who is BIG and who never changes. We will keep you posted and we so appreciate the ability to share this with you, knowing you will be praying for us. Love Steve & Kathleen Here is an update from our short term missionary to Turkey  Caleb Vance: I will be leaving in May to head to Dallas for training and then on June 2nd, I will leave for Istanbul, Turkey.  I will be in Turkey for 89 days and will be working with Iranian refugees and new believers.  I will be helping some with English and also in other areas of need.  Cost will be approximately $8,000.  This trip is a requirement for my mission’s degree and I am excited for the opportunity.  Thank you to the church for prayers and any financial support will be greatly appreciated.  If you personally feel led to support Caleb on this trip, please speak with Caleb, his parents Chris & Vicki Vance or the church office. Here is an update from our church planters Chris and Leann Chesley We are currently beginning to approach some specific people who we feel would be great team members for the work.  Pray that God will work in the hearts of those we talk to and just lead and direct to bring our team together as He wants.  Also, there is a possibility of us joining with an independent church planting network called Berean Fellowship of Churches whose sole purpose is to help establish and support new church plants..  We had to abandon the name we were originally going to use for the ministry, “Journey” as it is already being used by a recent contemporary ministry in Beckley.  We have another name we are leaning towards, but will let you know when the name is definite.  Thank you to everyone for the continued prayer and encouragement and thanks to the church for the financial support – all is greatly appreciated and needed.

"Power" series continues at Faith This Sunday we are looking at "Power Over Sin" As we come to the last sermon in our "Power" series, we have seen Micah dealing with some tough issues.  Yet he is going to close on a positive note.   There is hope for the people of God and He is going to deal with their sin and their is hope for a future in which God will help them overcome their past and their sin. What does the message of this Old Testament prophet mean to me?  There is hope for me also, if I have sinned, if I have failed,God can restore me if I will let Him. My main point this Sunday is: POWER OVER SIN BEGINS IN THE HEART OF GOD He wants us to get victory over sin.  Join us this Sunday as we finish out this series, our core text is: 19 He will again have compassion on us, And will subdue our iniquities. You will cast all our sins Into the depths of the sea. Micah 7:19 (NKJV)  (*I was unable to deliver this message last week, hope to bring it this Sunday.)   Jeff Riley-"Until He Comes" Sunday 6 PM 23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; 24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, "Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me." 25 In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood. Caleb Vance is coming in from Liberty this weekend for the Next Super Bowl party.  He is preparing for a short term mission trip this summer to Turkey. I received an email from him this week. "How are things doing at Faith?  I'm coming home this weekend for the Super Bowl with the College and Career Class.  I was looking into the costs of my internship and Christar has told me that a rough cost estimate is 8000 dollars." The church is going to be very involved in this mission project. We are supporting Chris Chesley our church planter in West Virginia and we will be supporting Caleb.  I hope we can mobilize behind Caleb and help him reach his goal.  Have any ideas?  Leave a comment on our church Facebook page or email me (billy@faithbaptistcovington.net) In my world. . .  It is always sad to hear of families leaving our church family, two of our families will be leaving because of job relocations.  Pray for Jack Baker and family and pray for Thom Burnette and family January was a very good month for the church: we actually finished out the month ahead by $2,000.00 in our budget income.  The Sunday School had a very strong month averaging 205 and our worship service averaged 290.  Praise the Lord and keep praying. Deacon on Deck for February: Mike Wade  968-0952 Please pray for Ed Hemp and family in the loss of his mother last week. Jason Marshall finished up his treatments this week Please pray for Jack Thurston in the hospital in Roanoke, he has been diagnosed with cancer and needs our prayer. A new study is starting at the home Bible study at the Baker home on Sunday nights.  This study will be based on the book about Heave from Randy Alcorn  Please contact Connie Baker for more info. 540-336-9576 Class 201 is our church membership class.  Maybe you have been attending Faith and want to take the next step. The Cub Scouts are coming!   A local group of Cub Scouts, pack #115  will start meeting at Faith in February.  They will be visiting in our services on Sunday  February 10 in the 10:30 Service.    ( If you would like more information contact Michele Montgomery or Donna Harris) This is our praise team last Sunday morning (Barry, Adam, Howard and Kathleen) this shot doesn't show all of our team, but we are so thankful for all the folks who contribute to our praise and worship ministry here at Faith.  We have a teen praise team, Levi and Tanner Seay have formed a team and on Sunday nights we have Doug, Katrina and Adam and sometimes Caleb Martin and Rachel Kimberlin help out.  Thank God for blessing us with so many willing servants. ( I recevied an email from one of our membersConnie Baker this week and she had an idea for a new ministry here at Faith, I thought I would pass it on to you and see what you thought.  If interested why not contact Connie and see if this idea can become a reality) While getting ready for church this morning, I was thinking of my Mom which resides at Scott Hill.  I have been praying about what  to do to help her not be so lonely.  She spends a lot of time in her apartment by herself, as I suspect many others do as well.   She doesn’t really know very many folks there, and yet there are 6 floors of apartments on both sides of the building. This idea popped into my head of having an afternoon tea once a month, changing floors each month.  By slipping an invitation under the doors of the apartments to the tea (planned for that particular floor), earlier that morning.  Each guests just bring their favorite tea cup, and the rest would be provided by our formally dressed members that might like to be involved in this ministry. Such as: Flavored teas Crumpets, tea cakes or any little treats good with tea Pretty plates & utensils  Table cloth with decorative centerpiece Bible readers & poetry readers Singers & guitar player to serenade      My hope is that after 6 months (because there are 6 floors), the residents will have drawn closer to each other.  Perhaps this could be an example of pure and undefiled religion in ministering to these widows and widowers in their distress as James instructs us.     This was our adult choir last Sunday, work has begun on the Easter Musical contact John Burnham if interested. I appreciate Jeff filling in for me last Sunday morning while I was under the weather he jumped in took over the preaching duties last Sunday morning. Thanks Jeff! I would also like to thank Ron Seabolt for preaching Sunday night.  It is good to know you guys have my back. :) This is the Seekers Lady Bible Study as they were meeting today.  They meet every Thursday at 1 PM here at the church.  The class is taught by Shirley Wolfe, here we see Karen, Elsie, Barbara, June and P-Nut

And I said, "No, my lord." 6 So he answered and said to me: "This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: 'Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,' Says the LORD of hosts. 7 'Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain! And he shall bring forth the capstone With shouts of "Grace, grace to it!" They are the eyes of the LORD, Which scan to and fro throughout the whole earth." 11 Then I answered and said to him, "What are these two olive trees--at the right of the lampstand and at its left?" Zechariah 4:4-11 (NKJV)  The above picture was taken last week here at church, pleading for someone to paint a Sunday School room here at Faith.  I posted it to Facebook and we had four ladies volunteer to take this project.  That is great and we are so thankful for the servant spirit we sense in these ladies.  Thank you  for your willingness to serve our Lord. "Power" series continues at Faith This Sunday we are looking at "Power in Failure" The backdrop for this series is the book of Micah.  Micah was a prophet in the Old Testament from the country, he was a rural person called to the city and an urban setting.  This week my emphasis is  dealing with failure.  Our text is Micah 7:7-8 7 Therefore I will look to the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation; My God will hear me. 8 Do not rejoice over me, my enemy; When I fall, I will arise; When I sit in darkness, The LORD will be a light to me.                Micah 7:7-8 (NKJV) Here is my outline 1.  My situation  vs. 7 2.  My focus  vs. 7 3.  My patience vs. 7 4.  My faith vs. 7-8 The key point:                                WITH GOD FAILURE IS NEVER FINAL Jeff Riley will be bringing a special message Sunday night in recognition of Sanctity of Human Life Sunday. In my world. . .  We had 226 in Sunday School,this may be a record for January We gave $89,000 to missions in 2012 Deacon on Deck for January: Ron Seabolt (968-1267) Our Wednesday night gathering has gotten off to an excellent start this year, why not become a part of one of our groups that meet each Wednesday at 7 PM This was the scene in the lobby of the church last Sunday night after the Steward family from Ireland was with us, I love how everyone stood around and talked.  I really enjoy seeing the family of God being the family of God

The church staff gathered for our annual planning meeting.  We had a very good meeting and have many exciting things planned for the coming year.  We are all going to be together in one service on Easter Sunday watch for further details.  We worked hard but we also had fun, it is great to have a staff you enjoy working with, thank God for the staff He has given to us here at Faith This is Faith member Glenna Barnette ringing the bell at the cancer center in recognition of her last chemo treatment.  Way to go Glenna!  Please continue to pray for Glenna and all those in our fellowship who are battling cancer. I am working on this Faith Connection at home this is what I see looking out of the window.  I am waiting for the first call asking if we have church Sunday :) This is our missionary Vicki White who just celebrated her 65th birthday.  She and her husband Bill have led the Grace Bible Camp for many years and we are glad to have them as a part of our mission's family here at Faith.  Happy Birthday Vicki!

How can I have a powerful relationship with God? Do what the Lord requires of you.  Micah was pointing out in his prophecy that the people of Israel were not doing what God had commanded them.
