New Baby read all about it

Fall Into Fun Sunday October 26 6 - 8 PM
This Sunday morning we continue in our Spiritual Minefield series.  This week we are looking at the third mine which is "The Internal Doesn't Match the External".  Jeremiah warns the men of Judah not to trust in the externals of religion while ignoring internal spiritual realities.  Any outward religious activity is meaningless if it doesn't reflect an inward change and true spiritual life.

Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, circumcise your hearts, you men of Judah and people of Jerusalem, or my wrath will break out and burn like fire because of the evil you have done-- burn with no one to quench it. Jeremiah 4:4 (NIV)

Jeff will be speaking Sunday night

Sermon Title: How do you see yourself?
Scripture: Luke 18:10-13

10 "Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.
11 "The Pharisee stood and was praying this to himself: 'God, I thank You that I am not like other people: swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.
12 ~'I fast twice a week; I pay tithes of all that I get.'
13 "But the tax collector, standing some distance away, was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but was beating his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me, the sinner!'            Luke 18:10-13 (NASB)

On January 18, 2015 we will begin a very special campaign here at Faith.  We will spend several months covering the entire Bible using "The Story".
The Story is an abridged, chronological Bible that reads like a novel. There are no verse references, and Scripture segments are seamlessly woven together with transition text into a single grand narrative. For those intimidated or overwhelmed by the unabridged Bible, The Story helps people understand God’s Word more fully and engage with it more easily.
Simple, accessible, and easy to use, churches are finding The Story a powerful way to engage their people in Bible reading like never before. As The Story brings the Bible to life, the broad scope of God’s message will penetrate hearts. People of all ages will be swept up in the story of God’s love and God’s plan for their lives.

The Story is not designed to replace your personal Bible but to supplement your Bible study.  It is a great tool to give you a grand overview of the scripture.  We are encouraging you to read along with us as we journey through the entire Bible.  (LifeWay Christianbookstores have The Story on sale for $5.00, we will also provide a sign up sheet at the Welcome Center if you would like to order through the church.)
Some folks in our church planted some special flowers for Pauline Hippert, here she is enjoying her flowers.

My name is Billy Price and I have been the pastor of Faith Baptist Church for 39 years.  I graduated from Lynchburg Baptist College in Lynchburg, Virginia in 1975.  It is now known as Liberty University.  Upon graduation our little family of three moved to Covington Virginia to begin a new church.  Elaine, my wife; Robbie, my son and myself  started our grand adventure.  I was soon blessed with a daughter, Robin.  People often ask me did I know when I started I would be here 39 years later, I can honestly say no and God hasn't given me a reason leave.  I have enjoyed my ministry in the mountains of Virginia, if it is His will I hope to finish my race here, but that's up to Him.

Back To Church Sunday this Sunday at Faith

Fall Into Fun Sunday October 26 6 - 8 PM
This Sunday morning we continue in our Spiritual Minefield series.  This week we are looking at the second mine which is "Distractions that Choke the Word".  Jeremiah warns the men of Judah not to sow among the thorns.  What was he talking about?   There are many distractions in life that will keep the truth of God from growing in our lives and leading us to maturity.   The frightening thing is that we can be distracted and not even know it, that is why this spiritual condition is just like a spiritual land mine.

This is what the LORD says to the men of Judah and to Jerusalem: "Break up your unplowed ground and do not sow among thornsJeremiah 4:3 (NIV)

Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain. Mark 4:7 (NIV)

I will be speaking Sunday night on Moral Absolutes.  Can we know what is right from wrong?  Does the Bible shed any light on this important subject?  How has our culture changed in the last fifty years concerning:
  • Divorce
  • Drug Use
  • Sex Outside of Marriage
  • Abortion
  • Homosexuality
What happens in a society when everyone does what he thinks is right not what absolute truth teaches?

In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyesJudges 17:6 (NKJV)

Join us in the Worship Center at 6 PM this Sunday for this timely message.

Fall into Fun date set

Fall Into Fun Sunday October 26 6 - 8 PM
"The most deceptively hazardous aspect of a minefield is that it can look so very peaceful. One may not even be aware of the danger until he is actually in the middle of one. And then the terrifying realization of not knowing what to do about it floods the mind!"

The prophet Jeremiah was speaking to people who were standing in a spiritual minefield.  There were dangers all around them that they could not see with the physical eye, but could lead to the destruction of their nation.  Join me this Sunday morning in the Worship Center (9 AM or 10:30 AM) as I look at Jeremiah's message to these people standing in a spiritual minefield, in the sermon entitled "A Spiritual Minefield".

This is what the LORD says to the men of Judah and to Jerusalem: "Break up your unplowed ground and do not sow among thorns.
Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, circumcise your hearts, you men of Judah and people of Jerusalem, or my wrath will break out and burn like fire because of the evil you have done-- burn with no one to quench it.                                                                                                      Jeremiah 4:3-4 (NIV)

Jeff will be leading us in communion Sunday night and bring us a message from 1 Peter 1:18-23 entitled "The Power of the Blood"

18 knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers,
19 but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the bloodof Christ.
20 For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you
21 who through Him are believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
22 Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from the heart,
23 for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God. 1 Peter 1:18-23 (NASB)
