                                    The r12 Journey—Part 6

Learning to Overcome the Evil Aimed at You

While it is not the solution to every instance of anger, forgiveness is the answer to much, if not most, of the anger we experience in life. Unresolved anger leads to bitterness, hostility, and revenge. Forgiveness leads to freedom and reconciliation. No character in the drama of the book of Genesis better illustrates the fundamentals of forgiveness than Joseph--Bob Deffinbaugh
14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. 16 Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion. 17 Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. 18 If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. 19 Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay," says the Lord. 20 Therefore "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head." 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.                                                                                                  Romans 12:14-21 (NKJV)
Who has wounded, betrayed, abused, abandoned, forsaken, forgotten, lied to, or hurt you more than anyone else?
1.  What do I say about this person that reveals I haven’t forgiven?
2.  How do I try to retaliate against this person?
3.  Am I willing to let God take care of it?
4.  How could I use this situation to bring glory to God and defeat evil?
In general, we can say that forgiveness is a conscious decision on the part of the offended party to release the offender from the penalty and guilt of the offense committed. This release not only frees the offender from guilt and punishment, but it also frees the forgiver of anger and bitterness. Forgiveness is not leniency or overlooking sin. --Bob Deffinbaugh

To really live, you have to forgive

10.08.10

"The church is good at telling the rest of the world what it should not do. But its vision for a positive direction is often missing."-Charles Ringma

Sometimes people see the church as the world's policeman, making sure everyone does what is right and if anyone does disobey the law letting them know about right away.  What is often missing is the perception that we are here to show the love of Christ to the lost and dying world.  I am so thankful to pastor a church that is making real efforts to communicate this love.

  • The children's ministry is sponsoring a shoe drive for those less fortunate.
  • The Backyard Lights group is collecting winter coats for those who need them.
  • The Mexico Mission (M&M) is preparing for another trip to aid deaf children in Mexico
  • Trunk or Treat is not to honor Halloween but to provide a safe place for children ( we have more non-churched people visit our campus than at any other time in the year)
  • I don't have space to mention all the visits to the nursing home, services at the jail, services at the nursing home, meals for those who are grieving, there is a lot we are doing to show the love of Christ
Are we perfect?  NO! But our  church is making an honest effort to impact lives for Christ.

40 And the King will answer and say to them, 'Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.'                        Matthew 25:40 (NKJV)

This Sunday Faith has chosen to honor the pastoral staff.  The whole staff would like to thank you for your kindness.  It is a privilege serving the "Faith Family".   Remember no Sunday night service in order to give the pastors the entire day off.
